On this day:
Blackstuff star Bernard Hill gives...
THE actor known for his “Gizza job” catchphrase offered advice about television and film work to Liverpool teenagers.
Bernard Hill, who played head-butting Scouser Yosser Hughes in TV’s Boys from the Blackstuff, returned to the city last night and answered questions from aspiring young actors.
Now a Hollywood star, who had a key role in the blockbuster Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, he talked to students at The Acting Academy in Duke Street.
The 65-year-old is famous for films including Titanic, The Scorpion King and Valkyrie.
Simon Wallace, executive producer at The Acting Academy, said the young performers were looking forward to picking up tips from one of Britain’s most powerful actors in Hollywood.
But Bernard was delayed arriving at the academy last night and missed some of the youngsters. He promised to return to give an acting masterclass.
Bernard’s character Yosser in Alan Bleasdale's 1980s TV series, represented the desperation of the country’s unemployed.
The Manchester-born actor was already well-known to Liverpool audiences for his work at the Everyman, including his role as John Lennon in Willy Russell’s hit musical John, Paul, George, Ringo and Bert in 1974.
